Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
So far, I have published 2 novels and dozens of short stories and poems. One of the novels is a dystopian serial novel, published in 2019 through Bewildering Stories. The other is UNDERTONES, an anthropomorphic, humorous mystery, which is coming out in Paperback on Jan. 2, 2020.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
UNDERTONES explores a fantastical alternate universe, populated by animals. It pays homage in some ways to the tone of Raymond Chandler Noirs.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I prefer writing an revising to outlining and planning.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Chandler, Bradbury, Borges, Poe, Jack Vance, Gene Wolfe and everyone on my Goodreads shelves. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/19563977.L_S_Popovich
What are you working on now?
An epic fantasy. And revising unpublished novels.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Goodreads
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get better at writing. It is a process that lasts from infancy till death. In order to compete with the legions of other writers, improving every aspect of the process is the best way to stand out.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
On the topic of agents versus small publishers: where do I start. Agents have given me less feedback, support and enthusiasm than have small publishers.
What are you reading now?
Vollmann, Gene Wolfe, and books published by Open Letter Press.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to write a novel per year. I hope learning more about publishing in order to publish with greater frequency will get me to the next level.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, The Complete Works of Shakespeare, and Don Quixote.
