Interview With Author LaPanda Mason
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have always had a passion for telling stories. At first the goal was to just self publish and hold the finished product in my hands with my name on the cover. The dream exploded into something else as my knowledge of the industry continues to grow. I have since self published three books and I am very proud of myself.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Beast of Beauty is my latest book. It was originally written for KDP series, but that program was discontinued, so I decided to publish it as a novella. It is my version of Beauty and the Beast.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really! I guess my friends find it weird that I don’t need it to be quiet for me write. I can write with the T.V. on, it doesn’t distract me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have found was the first book I ever read that really moved me was written by,Sista Soulja, (The Coldest Winter ever). I loved that story and the way the story was written. Over the years I have found that while Mya Angelo, mostly wrote poems, she was a inspiration that I could be a great writer without a educational background in writing.
I also love Eric Jerome Dickey, Terry McMillan and I love Stephen King’s mind.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a kinda of memoir, surrounding my relationship with my sister’s after the death of our mother. The focus is mental health and how black people refuse to admit when they need help.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still working that out!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stay motivated and keep moving forward. I have a problem with procrastination that I am constantly working on. When you have a full time job and still want to write, it takes a lot of self discipline, to come home from work just to work.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up! It take a lot of dedication and hard work to get notice in this industry.
What are you reading now?
Currently, I am reading a small book titled, The common sense guide to happiness.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My memoir this year and next year’s project is being outlooked.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
