Interview With Author Lashana Standard
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Lashana Standard is an accomplished author, educator enriching children’s lives through education and storytelling. Holding a Master’s Degree in Special Education and a Bachelor’s in Law & Justice, Lashana has dedicated her career to supporting families, particularly those with young children and developmental delays. She is the creator of the Chase Adventure book series, which fosters learning and creativity for preschoolers, as well as other inspiring projects like Alphabet Space, Number Space and Dream Big Beyond The Stars and My Magical Moments Journal for girls.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I was inspired to write Alphabet Space during the pandemic in 2020. It was a challenging time for many, but you channeled your creativity into a fun and educational book designed to help children learn the alphabet in an engaging way. The unique concept of blending letters with a space theme showcases your passion for making learning enjoyable and interactive for kids. Additionally, your background in education and desire to support teachers played a significant role in creating a resource that could be both entertaining and beneficial in classroom settings.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing routine is fueled by coffee and the quiet of nighttime, when her kids are asleep. This peaceful time allows her to focus, bringing her creative ideas to life without distractions.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been influenced by the classic children’s book Miss Nelson Is Missing! by Harry Allard and James Marshall. This book’s creativity and charm have shaped her approach to crafting engaging and memorable stories for children.
What are you working on now?
I amo currently working on Planets of Emotions, the final book in the Chase Adventure series. This story, centered around feelings, promises to be a meaningful and engaging conclusion to the series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To promote my book, I engage more on social media to promote my book, I plan to engage more on social media by posting regularly with fun behind-the-scenes content, polls, and interesting facts about my books. I want to create short videos or reels to showcase story readings and other fun moments. Partnering with influencers, especially mommy bloggers or teachers, will help get my books in front of a bigger audience. For family and friends,I host book launch parties or offer small rewards to encourage them to share my books. I also plan to offer teachers free classroom resources and virtual read-alouds, as well as special discounts for bulk purchases. At vendor events,I set up interactive displays for kids, such as coloring stations or storytime, and collect emails to grow my mailing list for future updates and promotions. Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stay consistent by setting aside dedicated time to write, and don’t be afraid to revise—your first draft is just the beginning. Connecting with other authors for support and feedback is invaluable, and building your author brand early through social media, a website, and a clear message will help you connect with readers. Start marketing your book early by sharing teasers and updates to generate excitement. Embrace constructive feedback to improve your work, and most importantly, believe in yourself. The journey may be challenging, but with dedication and perseverance, you can achieve your writing goals and create a meaningful impact.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I ever heard is The journey might be tough, but don’t give up. Believe in your story, and trust that your voice matters. Keep pushing forward.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Next for me as a writer is finishing Planets of Emotions, the last book in the Chase Adventure series. I plan to continue building my author platform by focusing on my website, social media, and email list to connect more with my readers. Hosting events like book readings or workshops could be a great way to engage directly with my audience. I’m also considering self-publishing for more control over my work and collaborating with other authors or creatives. With my background in education, I’m open to opportunities like speaking or teaching, sharing what I’ve learned along the way. The possibilities are exciting, and I’m looking forward to the next steps in my writing journey!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on an island, I would bring a mix of books for comfort, inspiration, and escape. I’d choose Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, a classic novel with rich characters and a story that I could revisit multiple times. For motivation and mindfulness, I’d bring The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle to help me stay grounded and focused on the present moment. Lastly, I’d take Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, a beloved children’s book that would offer a sense of imaginative escape whenever I needed it. These three books would provide a perfect balance of reflection, inspiration, and a bit of fun in a tough situation.
