Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
LaTonya Watkins lives in Alabama. She enjoys reading and writing books in the fantasy, romance, and religion genres. Writing for her has always been a fun outlet to get away from day to day issues and settle down for the day. It has taken her sometime to realize that no other career path work. She is the author of three books written for those who are looking for something new and exciting. She loves building a world that doesn’t exist in the real world. Then she creates characters that tear it down in an epic way.
When she is not working as a full-time author, she enjoys watching television, shopping, driving around town, hanging out, crocheting, and spending time with her cat Samara. Her goal as an author is to write the things she is most passionate about and entertain those who wish to escape reality.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Last Seeker Guardian Book 2
I wrote the book from a dream I had. It started as an imagination and I expanded it by adding characters to go with the epic world. I usually don’t remember my dreams, but this one I manged to remember some detail, jolting down the experience before expanding it forward. I find that writing in scenes help me better organize my thoughts when they are all over the place.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write between the hours of mid-night and two in the morning when I’m a night owl and four in the morning to eight in the morning when I’m a early bird.
I also find that my thoughts flow much better when I am isolated and when I am lying down in my bedroom.
Sometimes I will not eat anything the whole day if I got something exciting to write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite author is Kristina Douglas with the Fallen Series. It has been my all time favorite since I started reading it when I was in college. I love her style of writing and the steamy romance in her dark fantasy novel. I’m also a fan of J.C. DIEM Mortis Series. The first book in the series was my all time favorite since I was looking for something new concerning vampires. It was gruesome, it was rough, and it was vampirific!!!
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on Huntsmen Book 3 in the Last Seeker Series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I usually promote my books on social media first and my blog: www.ebookfantasyreaders.com Later, I want to try book signing when I have built a readership, etc. Right now I am focusing on building a book collection so that readers have many options to choose from.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Before you get into this industry, you have to love what you do because it isn’t easy. Don’t expect to get rich, but let your book sales surprise you. You’ll have to study and research marketing, editing, publishing, and so on. You’ll learn something new everyday as you continue to write.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To become great at your craft you must never give up and practice, practice, practice! Eventually, you’ll get it.
What are you reading now?
Sacred Bloodlines by Wendy L. Owens
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to take each day at a time and study my craft until I have reached my full potential.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Raziel from the Fallen Series by Kristina Douglas
