Interview With Author Lee Jakeman
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in England, grew up in South Africa, and now live in New Zealand with my wife and son. I have spent my entire working career in the IT industry. My wife is from India and the two of us are confirmed travel bugs. My son is training as a Software Engineer.
I have been an avid “truth seeker” all my life and I have just published my first book. It is based on my own experience as a truth seeker, gained over 50 years.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Quantum Action – Life Beyond Artificiality. Inspired by a lifetime of truth seeking. People often used to say to me: “Why don’t you write all this stuff down?” So I did.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tried speaking the book into a voice recorder, then using voice recognition software to convert it to text. This was not very successful, so I simply turned to writing directly into Word, usually 500 words at a time.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Authors: J Krishnamurti, Gurdjieff, Barry Long, Eckhart Tolle, George Orwell, Khalil Gibran.
Books: “The First and Last Freedom” by J Krishnamurti; “The Work” by Gurdjieff; “Knowing Yourself” by Barry Long; “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle; “Notes on Nationalism” by George Orwell; “The Prophet” by Khalil Gibran.
What are you working on now?
Promoting my first book! That’s a big job in itself!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Using Promotional sites such as yours (Awesome Gang). I think it makes sense to make your book available at very low cost to a wide range of people who may be interested. This will help to push up your rating as well as elicit some (hopefully positive!) reviews.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Always write from experience. Firstly, because it’s totally honest. Secondly, you can speak and write freely and confidently if you’ve “been there, done that”.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Less is more”. I discovered, the hard way, that you should focus on a handful of points, not a truckload!
What are you reading now?
The First Circle, by Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Possibly a book on travel. I have visited, to date, over 40 different countries.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“The Imitation of Christ” by Thomas A Kempis.
“The awakening of Intelligence” by J Krishnamurti.
“A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle.
“The Origins of Man and the Universe” by Barry long.
