Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I just finished publishing book number four, as of June 2019. I have a couple more in the works now.
I write mainly about teaching and raising children well that’s what I’ve done professionally for the last 20 years- and I write about ways to live a more connected and authentic life with integrity, joy, and a deep sense of meaning. After blogging about these things for many years, my writing is finally going into my books instead!
I grew up near Santa Cruz, camped in Hawaii as a beach bum, for a bit, and have since been living in Oregon (17 years now!).
I own (and love) a preschool, do healing energywork on the side, and love writing my heart out. I also love nature, live music, traveling, going to the movies, my Nichiren Buddhist practice, gardening, and snuggling my cat and dog!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My newest book is called Wholesome Parenting: Paving a Brighter and Kinder Future with Our Children. After having worked with children and families for 20 years, having known many other preschool teachers in that time, having gotten my degree with an emphasis on child development and education, and talking with so many parents, over the last two decades, about what really helps children thrive, this book really just flowed right out of me. It’s meant for the parents, grandparents, nannies, and teachers who love children and want to do right by them in all the best ways possible!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My biggest habit is to have classical music or soothing guitar music on, playing in my headphones, while I drink hot herbal tea with almond milk, and get lost writing for hours. If I know I don’t have at least several hours to write, a block goes up. Also, my longest writing days were spent with X-Files playing in the background. Sci-fi is my favorite!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been deeply moved by The Dark Tower series, I read and loved my first Agatha Christie novel recently, the Carlos Castañeda series, books by Thich Nhat Hanh, the Mercy Thompson series, and books by bell hooks.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a “sequel” to my book, A Movement of Courage: Connecting More Deeply for a Happier Life -it focuses more on how to create healing in our lives, in this crazy world.
I’m also working on another parenting/teaching book that focuses on the way we interact and communicate with children.
And more poetry.
