Interview With Author Liz Butcher
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an Australian author of dark fiction. I’ve published a collection of short stories and four novels. Fates’ Fury is a mythological urban fantasy, LeRoux Manor is a YA horror, Never,Never is a paranormal crime thriller based on Peter Pan, and The Descent of Time is a mythological urban fantasy.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Descent of Time, which was inspired by my early morning train commutes to work and a love of ancient history/mythology.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m still pretty analogue and do all of my prep and planning by hand!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Far too many to list! But off the top of my head, Stephen King & Anne Rice were huge influences growing up.
What are you working on now?
A fantasy called Sunrise about a woman’s struggle with mental health, and the first book in the Luna Zimmer series about a paranormal investigator with a mysterious past.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
At the moment I’ve mostly active on Instagram and Tiktok.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Believe in yourself! The most important thing is to get the story written and not to get caught up in all the processes that come after that.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Writer’s block is simply a lack of planning.
What are you reading now?
Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff
The Children of Ash & Elm: A History of the Vikings by Neil Price
Broken River by J. Robert Lennon
What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing, writing and more writing! I also work as a full-time ghostwriter and editor.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The Stand by Stephen King
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
