Interview With Author LM Bain
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written 2 books, so far, working on number three in the series. I am a high school counselor, and an adjunct faculty for the local community college. I am also the mother of three human children and 6 furry ones (5 cats, & one dog). I am seriously considering pursuing a PhD, but that is on hold for now.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Provenance, Lost Souls Book 2. It is the continuation from Demons, Lost Souls Book 1. The inspiration came randomly. The first line in the prologue came as I was taking the garbage out when we lived in Spokane, WA. The noise the wind made through the pine tree tops was inspiring that day.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sometimes I text myself notes or dialogue that I randomly think of when I am driving or at work.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am not sure because, although I write romance, I am not a romance type of person meaning I do not watch romantic comedies, romance, etc. I am more of a horror fan. My story has nothing to do with hers, but Angelou’s memoir, “I know why the Caged Bird Sings” really impacted me. Gave me a different perspective on the life of the author and the pains she endured growing up. Jonathan Livingston Seagull, I loved that book. I identify with Jonathan because when I was writing poetry in high school and showcasing it to my classmates, many would laugh and dismiss me and my silly poetry, and some deemed me an odd one and outcast, just like his flock did to him. I was never a conformist or a follower. Even now, I have little to no friends because I like to live life to my own beat, free of drama and conflict.
What are you working on now?
I am finishing up book 3 of the Lost Souls Series, named Requiem.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still trying to figure that out. I am not so great at marketing and promotion but need to learn and get out there.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not be afraid. Do it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Education is the only thing no one can ever take away from you – My dad.
What are you reading now?
Nothing now. I am focusing on teaching, counseling, and finishing up book 3.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Exposure, I hope. I put myself out there and signed up to be a vendor at a con in Globe this April. That would be fun! I will be finishing Book 3, then finally completing a slow-burn romance that came to me in a dream years ago that I have not found the time to finish. I have several projects in my head.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I want to finally be able to finish “It” by Stephen King. So being stranded on an island would be a good time to finish that book finally. I would like to re-read Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Though I first read it in Spanish, I would like to read it in English this time. I would also take Santa, by Federico Gamboa. Santa is a story set at the turn of the last century of a young Mexican girl who turned to prostitution and lived a life of sadness and misfortune. Oh and Pet Sematary, I would take that one too.
