Interview With Author Loralee Jean
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started writing in high school and did exceptionally well in English Literature. I wanted to write in a genre called "creative nonfiction" but when I enrolled into a writing school I was told this genre does not make money. So I pursued a career as a small town newspaper reporter for a few years. I got away from writing for a decade and life happened but now I am back to it! I have 2 books out so far and plans for more!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Highly Sensitive Person's Recovery is my latest book. The project is especially close to my heart because in the book I teach the very practical strategies that I used to recover after being in an emotionally abusive relationship with a narcissist. I feel that writing the book was the final stage of my recovery journey.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like snacking while I write…honeycombs, shreddies, trailmix, chocolate chips… ๐
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have loved Donald Miller's work for decades already. He writes non-fiction beautifully. Of course, for readers of my latest book, I highly recommend Elaine Aron's book, The Highly Sensitive Person, which is such an eye opener.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on developing a coaching program. I want to go deeper in helping highly sensitive souls to recover. Building community and being intentional about the healing process is so important after narcissistic abuse.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook is a real help. I have met many helpful people in groups that have agreed to read and review my books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
You have something to say and it's worth saying. Even if your book doesn't get widespread success, the personal fulfillment of a writing project is so enriching!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don't be an island. The bridge from self to other is vulnerability.
What are you reading now?
Boundaries for Dating After Divorce by Wildine Pierre
What’s next for you as a writer?
I will be putting together a companion workbook for The Highly Sensitive Person's Recovery.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My Bible (The Voice Translation)
A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller
Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott
It's Not Supposed to be This Way by Lysa Terkeurst
