Interview With Author Louie Neen
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an Australian author who has written 7 books, including Heal the World and Moving Forward. I write about environmental and social justice issues; a range of spiritual ideas; and the revitalisation of traditional Indigenous knowledges. I am a passionate advocate for transforming Western legal and educational institutions in order to address systemic racism and generate more spiritually aware societies. In the course of my life I have resided on Mununjali, Turrbal, Arrernte, Kaurna, and Whadjuk Noongar lands.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Paths to Infinity: A Survey of Key Ideas was inspired by a psychic seeing the Infinity Symbol during a live audience reading for me. She drew the symbol with her hand and told me that it was in relation to a musician I had just met. I then started to come across a very large number of books that mentioned the concept of 'Infinity' and so decided to more fully research the idea.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to listen to music whilst writing. Two of my favourite albums to write to are Swoon by the Silversun Pickups and Live and Electric by Hanson. Keep an ear out for Western Australian musician Sash Seabourne – his song 'Jackknife' is a classic and 'Raised by Rivers' is an important healing song.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been influenced by such authors as Shakti Gawain, James Van Praagh, Daphne Rose Kingma, Diana Cooper, Sonia Choquette, Char Margolis, Penney Peirce, Robin Norwood, Laura Day, David Suzuki, Tyson Yunkaporta, Anne Wilson Schaef, Gillian Ross, Carl Jung, Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Marc Allen, James Hillman, Elizabeth Peru, Sahvanna Arienta, Cassandra Eason, Joe Dispenza, John O'Donoghue, and Ivana Milojevic.
What are you working on now?
I am preparing the manuscript for Moving Forward (a book of practical healing activities) for release in 2024.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Collaborating with buskers to sell the book in malls. Goodreads website.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Identify your higher cause (soul purpose) on the planet and follow the synchronicities until you know what important message you are meant to be bringing to the world. Be a perfectionist when it comes to vocabulary choices, proofreading, and editing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Follow the energy.
What are you reading now?
Dreams: Signs of Things to Come by Quentin Watts and Vicki Canisius.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Tour the malls of the world with musicians in order to sell our albums and books together.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. Wisdom From Your Spirit Guides by James Van Praagh
2. Living in the Light by Shakti Gawain
3. The Sacred Balance by David Suzuki
