About Love On Someone Different Than You
Love is an action verb! When was the last time you sought out the opportunity to show love, to someone, who was different than you? What makes us different also makes us special and unique. It is common to see a difference in someone and not embrace it. Worse, hurting ones feelings, teasing or bullying because we mis-understand the greatness in being different. Or the extreme hating and distancing yourself and encouraging others to do the same from the one who is different.
To “love on” someone is a call to action! It is an opportunity to step in when a person is in need. It may be 5 minutes, 5 years or a lifetime of a new friendship welcoming differences. It is to show that you care or even a friendly hug or fist bump in solidarity.
Why love? Because it’s the right thing to do, you want love too and we know the world is a better place when you love from your heart!
Accepting differences is a valuable characteristic children should learn from an early age. But if this is a new struggle for you, it is never too late! It is important to see and understand that we are different in ways, size, color, likes and dislikes. Our differences don’t make us enemies. What a wonderful idea to teach children to actively seek out others who don’t look like them.
At Little Mona Books, we believe that hate is not great. We support the fight against racism of all forms. We believe bullies can be transformed. We believe hearts can be changed. We hope that this book can be a conversation opener to discuss those hard topics.
What makes us different makes us wonderful! I challenge you to love on someone different than you, even if they are DIFFERENT than you!
