Author Bio:
Will bought his first dog as simply a companion, but it turned out to be the start of a long passion. He increasingly realised how complex and rewarding dogs could be.
He learnt about dogs in their everyday roles as companions and how they reacted to him and the world around. He has a deep interest in the subtle skills of communication; how dogs think; how they are motivated; and their physical and mental well-being.
More was learnt about dog behaviour and communication by taking part in spring pointing tests and field trials, where a wide range of awards were won. Lone hunting in Wales and the highlands of Scotland greatly extended this knowledge, as the dogs were completely in their element and enjoying their immense natural abilities.
His extensive experience, often in the most challenging of circumstances, has provided a very wide variety of opportunities in which to learn about dog characteristics and repeatedly test the training methods used. Will is a voluntary teacher of dogs and owners.
Away from dogs, he is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and ran his own company for 30 years.
In engineering, solving problems is an everyday thing, and this skill naturally flowed over into his passion for training and working with dogs.
