Interview With Author Lucy Lee
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Lucy Lee is a collaborative partnership between two Florida sisters, who blend their backgrounds in photography, design, writing, and scientific writing.
Liar liar is their debut together.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Liar Liar. It began as an exploration of two flawed characters with personality types that should likely clash romantically. We wanted to see if they could beat the odds anyway and show a character arc along the way.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
We are a creative partnership. One sister does the majority of writing while the other is the creative force behind the book cover, website, and design.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
We are avid readers. There are many great authors we enjoy including Carly Fortune, Ali, Hazelwood, Abby Jimenez, Emily Henry, and Kennedy Ryan.
What are you working on now?
Our first YA romance, The Soundtrack to My Life is publishing next, while the follow up book to Liar Liar, Free Fall, is still in development.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Booktok, Instagram, and Threads have helped grow an audience and connection to the reading community. Book Blogs and Indie Directories have been really open to support.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read a lot. Go to book fairs, author events, follow your favorite authors and influencers, and just go for it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Actor Austin Butler said in an interview, “Embarrassment is an under-rated emotion.” Don’t let fear, self-doubt, or the risk of being embarrassed about putting out your art hold you back from doing it.
What are you reading now?
Our TBRs are always full, we just finished The Best Worst Thing by Lauren Okie, and consider it the best debut contemporary romance we’ve read in years. Up next is our most anticipated pre-order, the genre-bending romance, How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates by Shailee Thompson.
What’s next for you as a writer?
We will compete a trilogy of interconnected standalones in The River City Collection with book one, Liar Liar, book two Free Fall and unnamed book three for the next calendar year.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Funny Story by Emily Henry, One Golden Summer by Carly Fortune, Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood because those are all comfort reads and have read (or listened to the audiobooks) multiple times.
