Interview With Author Luis Rivera
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I retired from the NYPD after twenty years of service. I wrote about my experiences in the NYPD. I wrote another book about my experience as a young man and how I got interested in joining the police department. Happens to be my second book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I wrote my latest book “46-Rescue to Central” based on my experience as a young man involved in a volunteer rescue unit in the Bronx. What started out rendering basic first aid, the unit found themselves patching up shot and stab victims. Mobilizing car accident victims. It was around the 1980s when EMS were not yet part of the FDNY and due to the high volume of 911 medical emergency radio calls, EMS had a slower response time. This is where the 46-Rescue unit came out and answer the call for help.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I try to visualize every chapter as if I’m doing a movie in my mind.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Tom Walker, the author who wrote the novel “Fort Apache the Bronx” and “Death of a Bronx Cop.”
What are you working on now?
I’m trying to put together a spiritual novel between good and evil.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook ant the moment and any other platform that comes in handy.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Whatever ideas you have, write them down as notes and slowly you past them together.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be careful what you do today, so you won’t regret it tomorrow.
What are you reading now?
Nothing at the moment.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have not a clue.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I have always enjoyed realistic stories. It makes me think, in how the situation plays out.
