Interview With Author Luna Everleaf Everleaf
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Luna Everleaf, and I’m a passionate children’s book author who believes in the power of imagination, kindness, and storytelling. I write magical and heartwarming stories that inspire young readers to dream big and see the beauty in the world around them.
I have written and published one book so far, titled The Fox Who Painted the Sky, a gentle and colorful tale about creativity, courage, and the wonders of nature. It’s my first step in building a world where children can grow through joyful and meaningful reading.
I’m currently working on new stories that will continue to spark imagination and deliver positive messages to young minds.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is The Fox Who Painted the Sky.
It’s a beautifully illustrated children’s story that follows a curious little fox with a dream to paint the sky in bright, magical colors.
The inspiration behind this book came from watching how children see the world with endless imagination and wonder. I wanted to create a story that encourages creativity, self-expression, and the idea that even the smallest dream can brighten the world around us. It’s a gentle reminder that kindness, hope, and color can make a big difference, even in the quietest corners of nature.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I do have a few unusual writing habits! Before I begin writing, I like to imagine the entire story in pictures, almost like a movie playing in my mind. I also keep a notebook beside my bed because some of my best story ideas come late at night or in dreams.
Another quirky habit is that I often write while listening to soft nature sounds like birds, rain, or forest music because it helps me feel closer to the magical worlds I create for children. It’s my way of stepping into the story before I even type a word.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve always been inspired by classic children’s authors like Beatrix Potter and Dr. Seuss for their ability to bring imagination to life. More recently, I admire authors like Oliver Jeffers and Peter H. Reynolds, whose stories combine emotion, simplicity, and powerful messages for young readers. Their work reminds me that even a small story can leave a big impact on a child’s heart.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on my next children’s book, which will explore the theme of friendship and courage through a magical forest adventure. It will feature new animal characters, exciting surprises, and heartwarming lessons for young readers.
I’m also brainstorming a fun series of short stories that can help kids develop creativity, kindness, and emotional confidence. Each story will be full of imagination, color, and a touch of wonder—just like The Fox Who Painted the Sky.Right now, I’m working on my next children’s book, which will explore the theme of friendship and courage through a magical forest adventure. What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
One of the best methods I’ve found for promoting my books is combining free promotional websites with social media engagement. Websites like Awesomegang.com, Freebooksy.com, and Ereader News Today offer great free or low-cost exposure, especially during special promotions like Kindle Free Days.
I also use platforms like Facebook Groups for children’s books, Instagram, and Pinterest to share colorful visuals and updates with readers and parents. Creating an Amazon Author Page and using Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) tools like Kindle Countdown Deals or Free Promotions helps reach a wider audience.
The key is consistency and connecting with readers where they already spend time online.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, my advice to new authors is simple: just start and don’t wait for perfection. Every great book begins with a rough draft, and your first story doesn’t have to be perfect it just has to be yours. Believe in your voice, write with heart, and remember that your story matters, especially to the readers who need it most.
Also, be patient with the process. Writing, publishing, and promoting a book takes time, but every step is part of the journey. Read often, keep learning, and surround yourself with people who support your creative goals. Most importantly, never stop writing you grow with every word you put on the page.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is, “Write what you love, and the right readers will find you.”
This reminded me not to chase trends or try to please everyone. Instead, I focus on telling meaningful stories from the heart, especially for children, who are the most honest and curious readers of all.
When your writing is sincere, it connects deeply. That advice has helped me stay true to my style and message, even when the journey feels slow or uncertain.
What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m reading The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy.
It’s a beautifully illustrated and deeply touching book that shares simple yet powerful messages about friendship, kindness, and hope. As a children’s book author, I find it inspiring because it shows how much emotion and wisdom can be shared through few words and gentle artwork.
Books like this remind me why I write for the heart of the reader, no matter their age.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, I’m excited to continue creating heartwarming stories that spark imagination and emotional growth in young readers. My next project is a new children’s book that explores themes of bravery, curiosity, and friendship set in a magical world filled with talking animals and hidden wonders.
I also plan to develop a full series around The Fox Who Painted the Sky, giving readers more adventures with lovable characters and meaningful messages. Long-term, I hope to connect with schools and libraries to bring storytelling into children’s lives in a more interactive way.
The journey is just beginning, and I’m truly looking forward to what comes next.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on a desert island, I’d want to bring books that inspire, comfort, and spark imagination. My picks would be:
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry for its timeless wisdom and gentle reminder to see the world through a child’s eyes.
Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White is a beautiful story of friendship, hope, and the magic of simple things.
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy to lift my spirit on quiet days with its heartfelt illustrations and messages.
A blank journal because even on a deserted island, I’d want to keep writing and dreaming.
