Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a PNW author and just released my 4th novel, which is also a first in series! I’m also a mom, a nurse, a Reiki Master, a certified Yoga Instructor, and a grandmother of an almost 2 year old!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
This latest book released Nov 15th, 2019 and it’s called Steel Journeys: The Road to Patagonia. It’s about a woman who owns and all-female motorcycle touring company and takes it global, leading women all over the world. I was inspired to write it because I wanted to inspire and empower women riders and business owners. Also, because there is nothing else like it out there! There are several NON-Fiction books about women riders – those who tell the stories of their adventures. But there isn’t any FICTION out there with a strong female protagonist who loves to ride motorcycles and has built her life and her business around it. I wanted to tell the stories of the hundreds of female riders I’ve met, so each one will profile a different fictional woman from a different walk of life traveling to a different international destination.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am a discovery writer, or a “pantser” as those in NaNoWriMo have named it. In other words, I don’t plot at all. I simply sit down and see what the characters want to do or say to me on any given day. Most of the time I feel more like a scribe than a “creator” of worlds. I believe on some level, that these “worlds” that I create already exist somehow, that these characters – or at least their essence – already exists in the world. I just bring their stories to life!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Elizabeth Gilbert, Paulo Coelho, JK Rowling, CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, Anne Lamott, Annie Dillard
What are you working on now?
Book 2 Of the Steel Journeys Series, which takes place in Costa Rica. Also some narrative non-fiction and a 5-book Fantasy / Time Travel series!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook Groups are great because they are targeted to specific people so I can match my readers’ stories with the books’ stories.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t worry about what you will do with your book after it’s written, or who will read it. Just write what’s in your heart without judgment.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s all about relationship. We were made for relationship with others. Don’t forget that.
What are you reading now?
Stardust, by Neil Gaiman, Montana Women Homesteaders, and Several books on Yoga and meditation.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Expanding into non-fiction, writing more in the Steel Journeys series but also writing a sequel to Finn Again and possibly Letters From The Ledge.
