Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an author and independent publisher of fourteen books in all age brackets. My stories span the spectrum of Romantic Fiction from historical, paranormal, romantic suspense to Christian fantasy including the best-selling Angel Covenant Series.
Educated as a teacher I never lost my love for literature and began writing at an early age. Poetry, short stories and fiction. I can be found daily in the car rider line waiting on one of my three children and working on a manuscript. A Virginia girl at heart, I lives with my husband and children in South Carolina where I a currently studying Dragon Script with my ten year old daughter.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Stolen Dreams. It was inspired by a dream about a young woman deciding to come to America as a mail-order bride only to discover she is part of a trafficking plot to sell women from all over the world to the highest bidder. Stolen dreams has action, adventure, romance and a happy ending.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure what would be “normal” for a writer. If anyone sat at our dinner table with us at night as my family discusses the newest story or scene I am crafting they would probably think we were crazy! That may be the most unusual habit, including my family in the creative process. Though, I think its great for the kids to watch history come alive as I drag them into the current story with me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Dean Koontz. His ability to craft, action and romance with horror and suspense is a huge influence for me. I also love Julie Garwood. Her ability to make you feel every emotion is something I strive for in my books.
What are you working on now?
Book 3 in The Rivers Brothers series. Each brother will have a book. I’m also hard at work on a christian romance as well as a children’s book called “The Wishing Pumpkin.”
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have found that cross-promotion is the key. You can’t count on any one sight to do it for you. As independent authors we are swimming upstream against a strong current. It is through Pinterest ads, facebook ads, and individual sights like Awesome Gang where I find my best response.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t stop writing and don’t give up. Trust your voice and you will find your readers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write, every day, and never stop. We grow better with each story, with each word and be proud of each accomplishment.
What are you reading now?
Fool’s Assassin: Book 1 by Robin Hobb
My thirteen year old is reading it and I like to keep up with what he’s into.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m working on so many projects but the one I’m most excited about is my children book. It is a new process for me and I love children. Reading to my kids was one of my favorite past-times when they were little. Writing for children, to watch the magic light them up…that’s exciting for me.
