Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
THE VERITAS DECEPTION is my first solo novel. I co-wrote CIRCLE DANCE, a family saga, with my sister many years ago. Our recent book published under the pen name Liv Constantine is THE LAST MRS. PARRISH, a psychological thriller. It will be published by HarperCollins on October 17, 2017, and the rights have been sold internationally to fifteen countries.
I love to read, walk on the beach, and spend time with my family.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
THE VERITAS DECEPTION is a book that germinated in my mind for many years. I got the idea when I was working in corporate marketing and was struck be how susceptible we all are to the messages that inundate us day in and day out. The shift in television and movie content that got me starting to think about THE VERITAS DECEPTION. My father passed away in 1977 and years later I would think “He would be in shock if he came back suddenly and saw these shows.” That’s when it hit me, that it was happening so slowly, no one realized it. I wondered, what if there was an intentional, orchestrated, a campaign to attack morality and distract individuals from their true purpose in life? These were the seeds from which THE VERITAS DECEPTION was born. Ironically, some of my original show ideas for the book actually became shows by the time I finished writing it and I had to ramp things up even more.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I google images of settings and characters to use for information.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Growing up I read many of Susan Howatch’s books and loved her character development and how she could make you side with one character until you heard from the next. Caleb Carr’s writing in THE ALIENIST was inspirational as is all of C.S. Lewis’s work. Dean Koontz is another influence- his books are more than just page-turners- he really knows how to develop character and deliver a message with his books.
What are you working on now?
My sister and I are working on our next psychological thriller about two best friends who haven’t spoken in 17 years and are now trying to repair the relationship.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m on social media quite a bit and promote on Twitter and Facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing and work on your craft. Don’t get stuck trying to sell that first novel but write the next and the next.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be the best version of yourself. That’s an admonishment from my friend and author David Morrell. Don’t try to imitate someone else but find your own voice.
What are you reading now?
THE WIDOW by Fiona Barton
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to continue writing a book a year.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, A book on survival, Collected works of Shakespeare, An anthology of thrillers
