Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my book is “A Tale of Twisted Love: The Heartbreak Killer”. I was actually semi inspired by the book series “Dreaming Darkly Dexter” as well as the preceding show “Dexter”. I was a big fan of all of that work, and my serial killer Perry Nelson, has some characteristics of Dexter Morgan. However, the story I have written focuses much more on the relationship between the serial killer, Perry, and his relationship with Alexis Fisher. I have always been interested in the psychology of people in our world and my story reflects the struggles of a human being in every day life.
The real start to my story actually occurred on a day of a long bus ride to my college of Eastern Washington University. While on the ride I was stuck with a sort of lightning and somehow was implanted with this character broken from countless heartbreak. From there I developed the whole story you see in front of you today.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
The one thing I would say that could be unusual is that I drink gallons of coffee and energy drinks every day while I write. Unhealthy? Sure. But the jolts of energy I get from them really gets my brain turning. I would say on an average day I either drink two energy drinks (low cal) or four cups of coffee.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The biggest influence of writing on me has been from Stephen King. I love the style he presents his stories in, and I have a similar taste in my writing, something of weird horror and dread that has more meaning to it than a mindless slasher flick (if that makes sense?). I am also a huge fan of George R.R. Martian. His books have influenced me to make great characters and also not be afraid to rip the hearts out of my readers by dealing them a death blow to one of the characters they like. I also have to give a big shout out to J.K. Rowling. As a boy growing up, she showed me that not all books are boring. The Harry Potter series influenced me in a way that I can’t really explain in words. Maybe in the future I will be up for writing a magical tale as the Potter tale has showed me.
What are you working on now?
As of now I am working on a novella that will give me a break in between series books of “A Tale if Twisted Love”. Its on the hush hush for now but be on the look out in December for more information. I also am working on a full fledged publishing company that will be up and running here in a year or so up here in Spokane Washington.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have had great success so far in doing the book giveaway on amazon. I gained over 300 new twitter followers in a week, sales bumps, and the chance to give some fans a free copy of a book.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Work hard and never think that you cant do everything yourself. You don’t need the big publishers anymore.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You can do anything you want if you put your mind to it.”
What are you reading now?
I haven’t had the slightest time to read anyone else’s work. So only my own work of now. But I will say I have been dying the read the new Steven King book Mr. Mercedes.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing more books of in different genres to expand my audience. I am also working to be a full publisher for new and upcoming Authors who want to learn how to do it themselves. I am tired of the old publishing ways and am ready to spearhead the new generation. I don’t think writing books is dead as they say, I do think the old way of thinking and doing is.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire, Misery, & A Song of Fire and Ice: A Storm of Swords.
