Interview With Author Magda Kay
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey! I’m an Intimacy Coach and this is my first book (but not the last).
My work is a blend of Tantra and energy work, together with a more Western and “down-to-Earth” approach to human behavior and psychology.
I think I have the best job in the world, because I help people experience more pleasure and intimacy (spreading the love!).
I’ve been doing this for about 10 years. What brought me to this path, you may ask? Well, I lost a great relationship because… I wan’t having orgasms. This started my journey of sexual healing and liberation, and eventually opened the door to a whole new career.
I’m originally from Poland and I spent years in Malaysia, Thailand, Bali, India and Nepal studying the arts of sacred sexuality. And I love the fact that i get to share these teachings around the world. I help translate these often “woohoo” concept into practical tools and ideas, through which everyone gets to access them.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
No More Faking It: A womanβs guide to getting the love, pleasure and fulfillment she deeply desires
I’ve always wanted to write a book (I made my first attempt at 17 but… didn’t really resulted in a book ;).
In many meditations and practice setting the vision for my business, I kept getting the message that I should write books, that this is a medium to reach more people.
And finally, the first book is out! And it’s not the last, I want to write a series of books, each focusing on one essential skill or a tool to help people experience deeper intimacy in their life.
This book is about my signature method that I developed over the years and that I shared with many of me 1:1 clients.
2 years ago, I taught it in my VIP group program, and the women loved it. It reminded me of how powerful the system is and this is when I knew that my first book was going to be about it.
The system explores four power centers – four intuitive voices present in every woman’s body. And each of them work like a compass, only that… they often try to take us in different directions, because they each want something different.
These centers are: head, heart, gut and… pussy π
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Oh my… not really and now I’m thinking “how boring!” π But honestly, I approached writing like any other task. I tried to spend at least 25 minutes on it every day (using a Pomodoro Timer). I could never spend more than 2 hours on it, so shorter writing sessions but daily just worked better for me.
But no special rituals, desks or anything of that sort. Simply… sit down, open my computer, and write.
But it works for me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I loved reading Alison Armstrong and Stephan Labossiere, because their books are so easy to read. So often books are packed with lots of information and they are heavy (my book is non fiction).
I wanted to write a book that will focus on 1 idea only, not to overwhelm the readers. You know, less is more π
And I wanted to feel informal, like a chat between the besties.
Because the books of both of these authors felt pleasant to read, and most importantly, I actually retained more information from them. And ultimately, this is what matters.
What are you working on now?
My 2nd book!
This one will be fiction, and it’s gonna be a sexy story based on my life and how I discovered tantra and got into my work. I am working on the story outline and characters.
And outside of this, i am working on promoting my current book (like filling up this form!), as well as a couple of launched for my work. I will be launching a 12-month professional certification program for those wanting to work as a Love, Sex & Relationships Coach, and I am also preparing a smaller promo for my online course: Female Pleasure Unleashed (which is a guide for men to become the best lover!)
On a personal level. I just moved from Bali back to Europe so I’m trying to figure out which country i want to live in. I spent 13 years in South-East Asia, so this is a big step for me.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Mostly, using my own platform (Instagram, Facebook & Instagram) as these people already know me and many of them have worked with me, too.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing is a book is both bigger than you thought, and smaller than you thought.
Now that the book is out, it seems like.. not a big deal. It seems so normal and natural. But i remember how massive it felt when I was just thinking of writing it.
It was a great reminder for me that we enlarge our big goals, making them unnaturally big and scary, but they are actually much more within reach than we think. Once we get to the goal, we can see it and we wonder: what was all that fuss about?
But I will also say: writing the book is just part 1. Then comes part 2: all the logistics of actually publishing it, and then part 3: marketing & promo. Brace yourself for the full journey!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There is no one single advice. Nothing is that good π But… the one that rushed to my head (apparently really wanting to be shared) is to invest in your business.
In my last job, years and years ago, is when I started doing my own thing, too. I started coaching and offering online courses, but I was very reluctant to invest in it. Specifically, I wanted to buy LeadPges for $197 (I still remember that even thought it was 10 years ago!).
It was a lot of money for me.
That day we had a very successful businessman visit our office. We chatted and he said to me: “How are you planning to build your business if you’re not willing to invest in it?”
And so until today I remember this advice. Yes, things will cost. But this is part of running a business.
What are you reading now?
I just finished 50 shades of grey (don’t judge!) and eat Pray Love as part of my research for the second book.
Next in line is “Polysecure”
What’s next for you as a writer?
Like I mentioned: my second book! This is a big stretch, because this time it’s fiction. Writing a story is a whole different thing to writing a self-help book. It’s new, so there is a fast growing curve. And I’m loving it. I can’t wait for this book to be ready.
So right now I am focused on nailing the story outline and characters and soon I should be sitting down to writing the 1st draft!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well, depending on how bad the situation is… I’d take Bible. You know, just in case.
Then I would take Can’t Hurt Me by Goggins. I will need extra inspiration not to break mentally.
And finally, Yoni Shakti, a book about Tantra and yoga for women, with lots of exercises to open, balance and activate own energy. Being on an island is a perfect time to do it all, study more and… it’s a big book, and until now I haven’t had a time to finish it. I’d have fewer distractions here π
