Interview With Author Malienna E
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As someone who hasn’t even reached 18 years old yet, I am working hard to be someone’s favorite author. I want to write many books that people can enjoy. Despite my age, I want people to listen to my words and watch the stories I create as they unfold. My first book was “A Race Against Time”. This book is from my first series “A Lost Soul”. I am currently writing 3 more books. One of which is the second book in the series. Another one is a backstory to one of the characters from the “A Lost Soul” series. Finally, the third one is a separate Novel. If you are reading this, I hope you will give them a try and see if I meet your expectations or surpass them. I might even become your favorite author.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is “A Race Against Time” from the “A Lost Soul” series. Since I am a new author this book also happens to be my first, although far from my last. This book was inspired by a school essay I wrote. Yet, I felt too connected to the story to let myself end it there. So, I made it into a book and turned it into one of the most important things to me. This book then turned into a series with a much bigger world than I first imagined.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I would say that some of my unusual writing habits are writing things out of sequence and adding jokes to my notes. When I create outlines for my books I write them down almost exactly how they form in my head. This way it’s easier for me to understand, but if someone else were to read them I doubt they’d even understand what the first sentence means. My thoughts are a bit chaotic so to speak, but that’s what I feel the most comfortable with.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite author as a little kid was W. Bruce Cameron. I read a lot and enjoyed the way it felt to travel to different worlds. I also read and still do read an unhealthy amount of manga, webtoons, etc. Those are some of the different stories, books, or people that have influenced me the most.
What are you working on now?
As I stated earlier, I am currently working on 3 books. 2 of them are a part of the “A Lost Soul” series. One is the 2nd book of the series and the other one is a backstory of one of the characters. The other book is a separate Novel. The backstory or prequel book and the separate novel story will most likely be released in 2023.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method would be social media, word of mouth, and promotions. I am currently still a new author, so I am still learning and growing in many ways. I haven’t learned anywhere near enough yet.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Consistency and self-love should be your best friends. Learn and keep a nice and healthy pace to grow and write at. Take care of your mind and body because you won’t go far if you destroy yourself in the process. That’s my advice for people who are looking to be authors. Yet, even if you are not looking to be an author this applies to many things. Keep a steady pace, move forward, and take care of yourself.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I have heard lots of good quotes and advice that stuck with me. 1 of the most useful quotes is this. “Take an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year, but don’t let it take your life.” If you are tired and overworked or if you feel drained, take the time you feel like you need to heal and recuperate yourself. It’s ok to take breaks. Though after that, move forward. Accomplish what you made up your mind to do.
What are you reading now?
Some of the books I am reading now are “The Wicked King” by colleen hoover and “The Great Controversy”. Those are just 2 of the many, but I am reading the first 1 out of curiosity and the second 1 for insight I guess. I am also reading “The Untethered Soul” and “Dying for a living”.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Creating my audience and fandom. I want to have people who genuinely enjoy and look forward to my next work. I enjoy reading theories and ideas on what might happen next in my books. They are interesting and fun. I want to meet and see more people who will become fans of what I create.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring something extremely long because I do not want to be bored. Yet, I still want to finish the books I started. I think my choices would be “The Begining After the End”, “Unordinary”, “Omniecint Reader”, and “Wind Breaker”. I absolutely can’t leave those.
