Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My heart belongs to Chicago. Grow-up there. I live in Atlanta with my husband. We will be celebrating our 14 year anniversary next month. Hobbies include eating popcorn on a daily basis and staring at my treadmill. My mother is my biggest fan and my friends motivate me to continue on this journey of being, not just an author, but a storyteller. Oh yes….I have four books in print and I write in the Clean Fiction genre. I refuse to lace my work with explicit sexual themes or profanity. I esteem my readers. I know they are looking for a good story and I strive to not leave them disappointed in my books or me, for that matter. For me, writing is about making a connection with the reader. Reaching the heart and mind.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
AQUA BLUE. My hubby and I were driving through a rural part of Tennessee when I couldn’t help but notice the dirt roads, the old and barely able to stand gas stations, the carts that lined the roadway where goods had been sold and the one small car sales lot that had cars that were probably older than it.
Everyone seemed to be at the same starting point.
As I watched a few individuals travel along the sidewalks, I wondered what it would be like for them to escape a place such as that and travel to a major city, like New York. The story took off in my head from there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. However, I do find my best source of inspiration comes from movies that either make me laugh or cry.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Bible. I don’t know how else to put that. It has sold more books than any bestseller in history. I will never come close to that, but, I am determined to never allow my writing goals or style to go against my Bible-based conscious.
What are you working on now?
I’ve been staring at my computer screen and trying to peck away at my next novel, Precious Blue. Thinking about finishing up my first non-fiction title.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am finding that websites that focus on digital books, do best. Readers are looking for good reads, but with this economy, they are looking for good bargain books. The two have become intertwined.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
No journey can start unless you put two feet on it and start walking. Being an author is a journey. You start by writing. You continue by writing with passion.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up. Don’t give in and believe in your dreams.
What are you reading now?
Who has time for that? Thankfully, I am heading for a much needed vacation. I plan to download a few books while I’m enjoying the full rays of the sun. Haven’t quite decided which books I will be getting, but I’m sure they will be great.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Five years from now, I hope to see a book written by me on the New York Times, on the book shelves of women, as a download for many and a favorite by those who love a good read.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Did I mention the Bible? Okay, and maybe, Drowning Ruth.
