Interview With Author Mark Pugliese
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My very first book!
The son of Italian immigrants that made Australia their home, Nero, along with his brother and sister, were raised within Australian and Italian cultures. He grew up in the working-class suburb of Blacktown and was always creative, with a focus on music, which led him toward amateur and professional musicals and choirs. Later, he became a wedding singer.
The name Mark Nero is the nom de plume chosen by the author, as a way of making it easier for the reader to remember and search his name. As an entertainer, he went by the stage name of Marco da Vinci for the same reason.
Priding himself as being a Renaissance man, Mark has worked in different industries and lived in different countries, including the Unites States. His favourite novels are written by Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Melina Marchetta Dan Brown, Derek Hansen, and Stephanie Meyer. One day, he thought of an idea for a book…
The idea has led to a series of books and short stories but what drove him to write, was his natural creativity and the burning question, what if?
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Oberon
Being a wedding singer in the 80’s, I’ve received my fair share of Adam Sandler ‘Wedding Singer’ comparisons but one night while falling asleep, I asked myself ‘What if I became super famous and rich?’
The next thing I know, I was sitting at my laptop, staring at a blank Word document with no real expectations or idea what I was doing. The story almost exploded from me, which was totally unexpected, considering that I haven’t written since high school! I could compare it to the opening of a dam’s floodgate, with no way of being closed.
Oberon is the first of a three book series, so I’m hoping that people read it and enjoy it for what it is. Happy reading!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Brain explosion followed by holding on for dear life as I wrangle ideas and attempt to put it on paper. Well, Word, to be accurate…
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Looking for Alibrandi, Lunch with Mussolini and the Twilight series.
What are you working on now?
Final touches on book 2…
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I'm working on creating my own website otherwise, I've been terrorising family and friends on Insta and Facebook. Along with a number of author groups on FB.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
No really, seeing that I myself am brand-spanking new.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you know…
What are you reading now?
Nothing. I'm in editing land…
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully to consistent sell book and create a fan base.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The bible, any 'how to survive on a desert island' book and maybe something from Shakespeare.
