Interview With Author Mark Robertson
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Though I have written several books, this is the first on published. Most never made it out of the (hard drive, notebook, etc.)
I have been a registered nurse for around 30 years. I have been a paranormal investigator for a decade longer than that. You wouldn’t think the two would mesh, but…
Born and raised in rural Mississippi, I now live in the great state of Texas with my girlfriend, two dogs, three cats and a wolf. Oh, and the neighborhood roadrunner thinks he lives here.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Heartstone is my debut novel. At the risk of sounding mental, it started when I started having these strange dreams that felt like memories. Memories of ancient Scotland and battles won and lost there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write obsessively until the story comes out. I’m just as interested in seeing how it comes out as the reader!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Wow…so many. Zelazny, King, Kootnz, Mary Stewart, Poe…even Louis L’Amour.
Of those, Koontz is the most disturbing, because they seem so plausible. But the Avalon series by Roger Zelazny probably had the most influence in the way I write…the way I think.
What are you working on now?
The sequel to Heartstone is in the early stages.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That’s something I’m learning. I’m the new kid on the block, but too old to learn new tricks quickly.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t get discouraged. Keep at it. And don’t gauge success in monetary terms. Just one person that derives joy makes it worth it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t worry about what the world expects of you. Happiness is what really matters.
What are you reading now?
Oddly enough, a study on Quantum mechanics and it’s more …strange possibilities.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m still trying to figure all of this out, but I want to continue Heartstone as a series.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a hard one. Hmmm. The Art of War, by Sun Tzu, and (ok, I’m stretching it) the complete Avalon series by Zelazny.
