Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a stay at home mother to two children. I’ve been married for fourteen years, and have always enjoyed writing and reading mysteries, fantasy and sci fi novels. “Draw Closer To Him” is the first novel I’ve written, and I am so excited about its completion.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Draw Closer To Him” was inspired by my fascination with the supernatural and my love for Jesus. I wanted to incorporate my faith with a storyline that was filled with mystery and realism. I wanted my book to be enjoyed not only by fellow Christians, but all individuals. I also hope this book will draw those who don’t know Jesus closer to Him.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t say I have any unusual writing habits. I embrace procrastination or “writer’s block” because I feel it allows me the opportunity to step back and get a fresh look at where I want to take the story. I also depend heavily on the Holy Spirit and what He directs me to write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Some of my most influential authors are Dean Koontz, Mary Higgins Clark, Stephen King, Jerry Jenkins (Left Behind Series), and William P. Young (The Shack).
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on an untitled fiction surrounding the Native American culture, and because I am obsessed with the supernatural, there will definitely be an element of the supernatural incorporated into it.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m currently depending heavily on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) to promote my books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors would be to edit, edit and edit some more. When completing my book, I read the editing process is actually more important than the writing process itself, and I have definitely found this to be true. If you are not comfortable editing yourself, find a professional editing service. I also find it helpful to have several “test” individuals read your manuscript prior to publishing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Once again, the best advice I’ve ever heard was to edit, edit, edit.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading “Magic Sleeps” by Chere Smith.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to continue to write fiction which causes the readers to gain a realistic perspective on life. I also plan to continue with my blog (hopefully post more).
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The bible, a self-help book advising how to survive on an island, The Shack by William Young, and Frankenstein by Dean Koontz.
