Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a mom of 4 who has always loved books! About a year ago, I thought I’d like to start writing, and because of my kid’s love for animals, decided to write about them. I have had such a good time doing so! My kids constantly inspire me, and are always suggesting new ideas, which I love!
I now have 12 children’s books up and available in the Amazon Kindle marketplace. I am looking into getting them onto some different platforms, including Smashwords, and even public libraries.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest work is a series of books called “Baby Animal Names.” There are 4 books in the series covering Farm Babies, Zoo Babies, Wild Babies and Water Babies.
I have always loved all animals, but baby animals particularly hold a place in my heart, so that was the inspiration for the series. I just love baby animals!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I started writing, I wondered how I could make the books a little different. My books so far are all non-fiction, and I have based them around facts. I thought, “What if I could make the books fun, as well as educational?” That’s when I thought of making the books interactive. Where the child must think about an answer to a question about each animal. It has been a very successful idea, and I’m so glad I can offer books that young readers can enjoy while learning at the same time!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh, so many! I love so many authors. I am particularly influenced by some great self-help authors, including Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Napoleon Hill, Joe Vitale and many others. This type of reading inspired me to take hold of my dream of writing, and to develop the right mind set to succeed!
What are you working on now?
I am currently researching new material for a manners series. I love animals, but there are many other areas that I think would be wonderful to write for children. I feel very influenced to write books that can inspire kids to do better, be better, think better, etc. Our kids are our future, and I want to empower them to create a wonderful life!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Right now I have a Facebook Fanpage that is my main method of communicating with my audience. I run different marketing campaigns and try to tell as many people as possible about my books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes. A few things:
Keep learning, and keep writing.
If there’s anything I’ve learned about this process, it’s that persistence and a positive mind set are crucial!
Don’t get stuck wanting to make things happen – just go do it! Even if it’s not perfect, the process will teach you, and you can get better and better.
Never give up!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My mind automatically thought of a quote by Marianne Williamson: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”
That really describes some of the best advice I’ve heard in my life, which reminds me to believe in myself, work hard, and realize my fears are the only thing that can hold me back. And if I let myself be great, I can be.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Again, there are so very many! But if I had to pick one, I would say “To Kill A Mockingbird.” That story taught me lessons I have remembered my whole life.
