Interview With Author Mary Kay Cunningham
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an independent author and poet from East TN and have written over twenty books. Books of poetry, dark romance, and contemporary romance.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is Her Flowers. Which was inspired by my own experience in a toxic and abusive relationship. Along with experiences of those close to me. I wanted to write a book showing said relationship and getting a happy ending afterward.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, not that I can think of.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Moonsoulchild, R.H Sin, and H.D Carleton are all authors who have influenced my work in more ways than one.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am doing the final edits of my next novella, The Cure That Couldn’t Catch Her. Following Willow Wenslow’s journey with her mental health and poor coping skills. When she meets Kieran Rigby her life gets turned upside down in both the best and worst ways. Together they wind up finding a not so stable way to get by.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Scheduling posts for a few times a week for the first couple weeks pre-release, and the next month post release.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My best advice for any new authors would be no matter the idea that pops into your mind, write the book. Whether you end up publishing it or not. You were meant to write it for a reason regardless.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have heard is simple, the right writing happens at the right time.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading For When You Are Ready To Bloom by Moonsoulchild.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing up my new novella then starting my next poetry book.
