Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a special effects designer by trade, with some awesome connected stories. I have written four books to date and intend to do more
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Woe of Roanoke. The terrible tale of the notorious Scottish cannibal Sawney Bean was told to me by an aspiring young film maker when I was ten years old. It has taken me decades to form and formulate that disturbing story into this huge epic poem
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I usually write whilst sitting on a smoke machine at the back of a film set
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Jabberwocky poem with a nod to Coleridge and ‘The Rime If the Ancient Mariner’
What are you working on now?
‘Song of the Mancked Mouse’ about the transatlantic slave trade and a colony of mice that are captured by rats
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t really know. I’m not a very good self publicist
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep at it. It is healthy to write and words last longer than people.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s been mainly negative
What are you reading now?
Pelecanos
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d like more freedom for the art of writing. It’s too distracting trying to do Sfx at the same time
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Catch 22. Lord of the rings. The age of narrative verse.
