Interview With Author Matt Borne
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Matt Borne. I’m 58 years old and of Swedish origin. I have, however, lived and worked in London, England, for over 20 years. I am married with three grown-up children.
Seven stories are currently published with my name on them. I also ghostwrite some stories. Right now, I’m working on the hard-boiled Luigi Ferro detective stories.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
For The Cipher of Eden, I had the idea that I wanted to write something like Dan Brown’s magnificent thrillers. One day, I came across the myth of The Testament of Solomon, and the story grew from there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I usually do not get started until after lunch and can write till midnight. I start each day by reading what I wrote the day before, trying to find errors and anomalies.
I probably write as fast as the reader reads. That is how I like it. It is fast-paced, fun, engaging, and entertaining. I love to write!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Very hard to answer. Everything influence me as a writer, but my writing style is probably mainly influenced by the mystery and detective stories from the mid 20-th century.
What are you working on now?
Currently I’m writing the last chapters of a new mystery series about Nicolas De Wever, an antiques dealer based in Brussels, Belgium. The first story should be published in March 2024 and has the title “The art of Murder in Brussels”.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve so far focused most on promotions in social media, and the results are not always fab…
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just do it! Write, write, and write. Skip the online courses and classes and write the way you want and the story you love. The only way to develop as a writer is to write and to write what is closest to your heart.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just do it!
What are you reading now?
I mostly read non-fiction, currently: The Confession of an Economic Hit Man
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m researching for a follow up to The Cipher of Eden and there is always a new story to be written for hardboiled private investigator Luigi Ferro.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Some classic pulp by Ian Fleming and Leslie Charteris.
A collection of Conan stories by Robert E Howard.
