Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am Matt Converse of San Francisco, author of Behind the Velvet Curtain, an erotic gay thriller novella eBook published in 2015 by Comet Press. I’m back with Strip Shot, the prequel to Behind the Velvet Curtain, to be published by Encompass Ink on January 7, 2017. A horror writer at heart, there is some horror, suspense, mystery or thriller elements in everything I write. I strive to bring diversity to the publishing world.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Strip Shot, the prequel to Behind the Velvet Curtain. I wanted to give a real, gritty look into the life of a stripper, and the prequel charts the journey of how he made his way to the stage and what he found when he got there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love listening to Lady Gaga as I write, but for the darker elements of the story I switch to Depeche Mode to set the mood. I’m a night owl and write well into the wee hours of the morning.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King is my greatest inspiration as an author, I’ve been reading his horror novels since I was a kid. I’m also a huge fan of movie director Alfred Hitchcock.
What are you working on now?
I am working on several projects, the sequel to Behind the Velvet Curtain and also a full length horror novel.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook, twitter and review sites as well as author interviews and spotlights.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing, every no is one step closer to that yes. A published author is simply an amateur writer who didn’t give up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Success doesn’t bring happiness, happiness brings success. Do what you love.
What are you reading now?
Psycho by Robert Bloch, I love the movie and always wondered how it differed from the novel.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To publish my first full length novel.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Four books by Stephen King!
