Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been working as a freelance writer, editor, and copyeditor for over 15 years. In that time, I’ve written a number of educational books for hire, but the Housekeeper series marks the first time I’m not working for someone else, and instead writing the series as an independent author.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The first book in my series is called A House for Keeping. I’ve been thinking about the main character for a while. Nanowrimo helped me get the book off the ground, and I’ve been writing ever since.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I plot, I tend to write things out longhand instead of typing them.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Where do I even start? Douglas Adams, Laurell K. Hamilton, Ilona Andrews, Charlaine Harris, Janet Evanovich, Lloyd Alexander, Neil Gaiman, Louisa May Alcott, Mary Oliver, and Edna St. Vincent Millay, to name just a few.
What are you working on now?
I’m about to publish Book 2 in the series—it’s called A Pool for Company. And, I’m writing Book 3.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m a big believer in being as helpful and honest as possible. I think cross promotions where the authors are legitimately helping to lift each other up are a great idea.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
You can do it! It takes time and patience and a bunch of hard work, but if you keep at it, you can finish your book and release it into the world.
What are you reading now?
Hah. I’m actually rereading A Pool for Company for the gazillionth time to try and catch any last minute issues before I press “publish.”
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh that’s just mean. Well, probably Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, because it’s so darn clever and, let’s face it, if you’re stranded on a desert island, you’re going to need a good laugh. Hmm, other than that, I’d probably bring something enormous where you find something new every time you read it, like the entire Lord of the Rings series or Edna St. Vincent Millay’s complete works. I’d bring at least one steamy romance, because hi, alone, desert island, ahem. Aaaaand, I’d trade that last book for some music because I gotta have me some music.
