Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Matthew Gerges and I am a bit of an interesting character. Not really, actually. But I currently go to school, I guess, at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. I used to make videos for fun and I hope to get back to that sometime soon. I keep saying I will, but I kind of procrastinate things.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called As the Way Comes. What inspired the name? Or the book? Nothing really, but one day I wanted to write and found I had an unfinished Word Document called simply “My Story” and I decided I had to finish it. Some elements, however, were inspired by my life. Like the whole Depression thing. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read the book (haha).
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No
What authors, or books have influenced you?
None really. Honestly, I liked writing way before I liked reading. And I’m sure things I read now influence my writing style, but I don’t think reading influenced writing. It’s more the other way around.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a much more detailed story about a guy who…I don’t even know how to summarize it. But I guess a demon haunts him? Yeah, a demon haunts him. And he wants a soul from a soda can. If you’re thinking “What?” good. You should be thinking “What?” There’s a lot more to it, but I’m not about to spoil anything.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
If someone figures out the answer, tell me 🙂
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I am a new author. But I’d say never stop improving. And don’t get cocky about your writing. Accept help from others. Even if you’re the one doing the writing, other people may have some good ideas for you.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Nothing yet. Hopefully I learn something in my Creative Writing class.
What are you reading now?
The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series (Life, The Universe, and Everything).
What’s next for you as a writer?
I don’t know.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring my own book so I can gloat that I have a book. And that’s all I’ll need 🙂
