Interview With Author Max Nabati
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Max Nabati (also known as Shahrooz Nabati in some contexts) is a global citizen, independent author, and self-publisher. A lifelong traveler who began solo journeys at age 21, I’ve immersed myself in diverse cultures, societies, and natural wonders across many countries—from the misty forests of northern Iran to vibrant festivals in the Philippines and beyond. These experiences deeply fuel my writing. Starting my serious publishing journey in recent years after decades of writing, I’ve flash-published over 80 titles (with earlier works exceeding 25), available primarily through Books2Read. My catalog spans addictive short stories (notably the ongoing “Seven Stories” series, with volumes like 2nd, 9th, 20th, 22nd, 29th, 31st Seven Stories), gripping novels and novellas (including The Lion’s Silk Trilogy and the Persepolis Inheritance Quartet exploring Iranian/Persian heritage, identity, and human experience), razor-sharp nonfiction, thoughtful travelogues, photo essays, and more. I’m dedicated to crafting stories and insights that resonate worldwide. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest releases include volumes in the “Seven Stories” anthology series (e.g., 30th Seven Stories and 31st Seven Stories, published in late 2025) and installments in The Persepolis Inheritance Quartet (exploring Iran’s fractured heritage through themes of memory, illusion, justice, love, and loss). These short tale collections draw inspiration from my global travels and Persian cultural roots, blending reality with illusion, prejudice with justice, and personal journeys with broader human experiences in diverse settings. The inspiration comes from real-world observations during my wanderings—conversations, landscapes, and cultural clashes—that I weave into evocative, standalone yet thematically linked stories.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I thrive on “flash publishing” previously showing my photographs in Art Galleries, then on Amazon and now on Draft2Digital, bursts—writing and releasing rapidly to keep momentum high while maintaining quality. I often draw directly from travel notes, photos, and on-the-ground experiences rather than purely from imagination. I write across genres fluidly, sometimes switching from nonfiction travelogues to speculative fiction in the same session, and I prefer minimal outlining to let stories evolve organically.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m influenced by international authors who capture cultural depth, human complexity, and the beauty of diverse worlds—think classic Persian poets/storytellers for heritage elements, modern global voices like those exploring identity and migration, and travel writers who blend observation with narrative. Specific titles or names aren’t singled out in my bios, but the blend of literary tradition, philosophical insight, and vivid storytelling across cultures shapes my approach.
What are you working on now?
I’m continuing the “Seven Stories” series with new volumes, expanding The Persepolis Inheritance Quartet, and developing more travelogues and nonfiction. Expect more addictive short tales, gripping series installments, and insightful works blending personal/global perspectives. Keep an eye on my site for upcoming releases, audiobooks, and free offerings like “The Grazing Mind: Why Infinite Choice is Starving Our Depth.” I’m always open to reader feedback and ARC requests!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have a free wordpress website plus an X and Goodreads accounts.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just try to travel, visit, observe carefully, listen to people and then keep writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Life is too short. Use every second of it.
What are you reading now?
I am reading The book theif by Markus Zusak.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To revise my entire collection.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I like Tolstoy, James Joyce and Sadeq Hedayat books. Any of their works will do.
