Interview With Author Medini Pradhan
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an aspiring writer, now a published author based in California. I just published my very first children’s rhyming book, called Nana’s Call. I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager and love writing historically relevant food essays. My essay on my grandmother – Of Spices and Spice Mistresses” was published in a local magazine. Besides writing essays and children’s books I am working on my cookbooks.
Years ago, I created CuisineCuisine.com, a website dedicated to Indian Cuisine and Culture Made Easy. I have taught Indian cooking classes for many years. Making newcomers comfortable with cooking complicated Indian recipes is a natural talent of mine. I have appeared in the New York Times Food section as well as The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for my Indian recipes.
Besides writing, I love cooking and developing digital content. As a former real estate agent, I create digital content for realtors. I am working on a book for a new realtor.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Nana’s Call : Every Day At 5 o’clock is my latest book. The idea for the book came when my grandson and I were singing songs on our daily video calls. I was so fascinated by our connection and how much love there is between us, that I decided to capture our moments with my words and pictures.
I love rhyming and once I got started, the rhymes just flowed. I am a modern working grandma who loves her grandson very much. I fulfilled my dream of writing a book and now I want to share it with you. If you are looking for a sweet rhyming story of a modern working grandma who loves her grandson, then look no further. By writing this book I hope to make you smile and remember the moments you spend with your loved ones on your video calls.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Ha ha, yes, I get inspired when I listen to nostalgic music or am eating something that reminds me of a certain time. So I have my notes app open and start dictating. Not sure it that is unusual but that’s me ๐
What authors, or books have influenced you?
All the books by Ayn Rand greatly impacted me in a positive way. I love self-help books and biographies. Kahlil Gibran books make me happy.

Social media and of course sites like Awesome Gang! There are so many resources out there and it’s important to choose wisely.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day! Read lots!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Take it one step at a time! Sometimes I get overwhelmed with all the writing projects on hand and think that it might just be impossible to complete. Breaking it down by tasks makes it much more doable.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue to hone my writing skills. Definitely reading unique books to explore and learn unique writing styles.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, any of the Colleen Hover novels, any Tony Robbins books to keep me going and definitely and the works of Kalhil Gibran.
