Interview With Author Megan Whitmer
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a married mother of 5 kids. I am Canadian and a duel citizen but now live I in the United States with my family. I am a respiratory therapist and I LOVE sucking snot out of people. Totally satisfying lol. Also I am a big fan of breathing. I think everyone should do it regularly. I play the piano and write music for choirs. I love writing (like most of you). This is my first book and it has been so much fun and a steep learning curve.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Mom Life Versus the Everyday Apocalypse. I've been writing Facebook posts (that were way too long for Facebook) for years and my friends LOVED them. I was constantly told to write a book. So finally, I listened and decided to do it.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
You will often find me writing in the stairwell at work. I work at a hospital and inspiration likes to hit at the weirdest times. So I will go to a stairwell, type my idea into my phone and then work on it later when I get home.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Erma Bombeck, Patrick Mcmannis, Brandon Sanderson and his podcast have really inspired me to just get going and write.
What are you working on now?
Book 2. Another Mom humor book
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I LOVE handing out business cards. I run around parks and malls and stores. Where ever moms are, and I do a little spiel and let them know about my book. It totally energizes me and makes me feel like I connect with my readers. It also leads to more and better reviews.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be prepared to work hard to get it to the published phase. Writing was fun, Publishing is like running a marathon where you learn a thousand different skills that you had no idea existed. Also DO get it professionally edited. and DON'T do you cover yourself. Get a professional to do your cover.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just do it. I started writing this book in the middle of a life disaster. There is never a better time than now.
What are you reading now?
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
What’s next for you as a writer?
I'm Starting on my next mommy humor book. I can't wait to finish it.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
