Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
A lifetime reader, over the years I have read quite a few different genres. Everything from fantasy, sci-fi, thrillers and action adventure, to Stephen King, non-fiction, biographies, How-to’s, and a lot more! So far I have two non-fiction books on biking and the car-free lifestyle as well as the first book in my action/thriller series called “Where Power Resides”. The Bike books are “The Urban Bike” and “Urban Bike Stories”. The next book in the thriller series is due out in the next few weeks and is titled “Power Of Gods” I am also well into the third full length book in that series called “Power From Within” and a novella that will be a prequel to the series. Each book is for the most part a stand alone read, but of course reading them all will add much more depth and background to the stories and characters.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest is “Where Power Resides”. A political thriller, it explores the idea that perhaps power isn’t always where we think it is. A huge fan of Clancy, the Jack Reacher books and other spy/techno/conspiracy types of books, as well as living in Washington, D.C. now made it seem a natural choice!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Maybe… I do most editing and revisions in my home office, but most of the creative writing is done all around DC. I commute to work for my day gig, so I allow extra time to pop into a coffee shot, one of the Smithsonian museums, or other places to write on my Ipad and a bluetooth keyboard.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh so many! I remember when Michael Crichton’s “Jurassic Park” was about to be released. I was fascinated by the science behind the story and bought the book when it was first released! Also a huge Tom Clancy fan just because of the depth. detail and realism in all of his writing. I also have enjoyed Dan Browns books. As far as writing, by far the biggest influence would be Stephen King’s “On Writing”. That book was HUGE for me from a writer’s perspective.
What are you working on now?
I am currently doing final revisions on the next book in the “Power” series, Power of Gods. I am also working on the novella for that series and writing the third book, “Power From Within”.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I must admit I am still experimenting in that area. Building a Twitter following, Facebook fan page and soon to have a real authors website.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Hang in there! write a good book! Don’t skip the essential things that separate the pro’s from the Joe’s. Have your book edited. Hire a real cover designer and tell a great story.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.” Stephen King
What are you reading now?
I tend to read quite a bit on indie publishing. Lately I’ve read Nick Stephens “Reader Magnets” and Supercharge your Kindle Sales”. Also David Gaughran’s “Let’s get Visible” and “Let’s Get Digital” books. For enjoyment I am constantly seeking out new writers I might enjoy. The last few i’ve read are “Buddha In Blue Jeans” by Tai Sheridan, “Personal” by Lee Child, several of Russell Blake’s “Fet” series of books and a few of Bob Mayer’s books.
What’s next for you as a writer?
finish my “Power” series of books. possibly an addition to my Urban Bike series called “Urban Foodie” and then who knows! Probably a brand new series!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Twenty thousand leagues under the sea, The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy books, The Right Stuff, and maybe some Dan Brown and/or Michael Crichton.
