Interview With Author Michael Colon
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Michael Colon born and raised in NYC. I am a freelance writer for various publications and a novelist. I use my creative writing craft to impact the lives others in thought-provoking and meaningful ways. I often equate writing to painting masterpieces with prose. My inspiration comes from societal abnormalities, cultural differences, and my own life experiences. When I am not writing, I enjoy working out, going on nature walks with my wife, and watching sports.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is The Gift from Aelius. What inspired this book was wanting to exercise my imagination and ideas for a story that is a reflection of the world we live in today. I wanted to create an experience for the reader that takes them on a philosophical adventure. Human history and how I have felt growing up inspired the story, and the protagonist.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I prefer to write down my ideas and chapter content in spiral notebooks before typing it on google docs.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I will say life experiences and cultural artforms inspire me to write stories.
What are you working on now?
I am always writing and taking freelance work as it comes. For now, I am working a sequel to The Gift from Aelius.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When it comes to promoting my work I use word of mouth, posting flyers, social media, contacting magazines and news outlets, and other content aggregator platforms. However, I am always learning new ways to market my work.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Advice I have for new authors is to always understand that even though you achieved getting your first book published hat there is more work to be done.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Faith, hard work, and consistency will leave you in a better place then yesterday.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Publishing more novels.
