Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Born in Bountiful, Utah, on the shortest day of the year, December 21, 1966, Michael was the second oldest of five children. He came from humble economic means as his father was a school teacher among many other side jobs to make ends meet. Michael was taught to work hard and actively look for ways to help others. He had a wonderful childhood and feels a deep appreciation and love for each of his family members. His family recognized his imaginative talents at an early age through his art and writing. If there were ever a poem or funny story to be told at family events, Michael was recruited to write them.
In addition, Michael has always had great appreciation for the Native American Indians and currently restores/recreates NAI tools and weapons through his Hopewellmj YouTube channel. His love for the outdoors is a huge part of his life and he feels most at home when in the mountains.
Michael married his college sweetheart in 1989 and is a proud father of four children who were the greatest gifts he was ever entrusted with. His wife, Jennifer, is his best friend and partner in all aspects of his life. Family and faith come first in Michael’s life. He graduated from college with a degree in sports medicine but has continued to draw and write when time permits. Dig Deep is Michaels first published writing and it was intended to reflect the values and priorities that he was raised to have and demonstrate himself.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Dig Deep
While watching a documentary on the La Palma Island Volcano and its consequential rift, I started wondering what it would take (other than a natural force) to get the rift to complete its separation and drop a chunk of the island into the ocean. Scientists believed that the result would be a mega tsunami taking out the eastern seaboard.
I thought it would make for a great story if terrorists found a way to be the catalysts to release this rift. This idea made me continue to work out the logistics of creating a hero that could foil their plans.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am very sarcastic with friends and strangers a like. I find my main character reflecting some of these same traits.
What are you working on now?
I wrote the first book so that if I wanted to turn it into a series, I could. I have found myself brainstorming potential future adventures to challenge my main character.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am hoping that Dig Deep continues to build momentum and then I will work on making it into a series.
