Interview With Author Michael Pepper
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I graduated from Princeton in 1971 where I majored in architecture and urban planning. After two years in limbo, I began my career. I enjoyed the art of designing, developing and building major high rise projects. My work has taken me around the world purchasing building components such as stone and steel. I also taught a course in real estate development at Kellogg and Booth Graduate Schools of Business for many years.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Royal Edge. The inspiration for writing Royal Edge came from my raising three daughters from the time they were quite young and my sense of offering them advice once provided to me by Ella, a lead character in Royal Edge, for their life journeys.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Royal Edge came together from my recording memories of my time with Ella while on hikes many years later. At one point I had enough recordings to begin to put the story together.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many authors have influenced me from Mark Twain to Ayn Rand as well as Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jules Verne, James Michener, Antoine de Saint Exupery and many others.
What are you working on now?
I am presently working on allowing Royal Edge to get exposure and expand its audience.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
You can find the book on Amazon on that link below.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Great satisfaction comes with completing the telling of a story that has been meaningful in once’s life. It is amazing and satisfying to receive feedback on how one’s writing is received by others.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
‘The most beautiful color on an artist’s palette is the color of love,’ Mark Chagall. And the advice that follows in my writing is to surround oneself with what one loves in life.
What are you reading now?
Genesis by Henry Kissinger.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have thoughts of writing about my experience managing the creation of a fifty story skyscraper in downtown Chicago. However, I plan to first focus on doing what I can to promote the reading of Royal Edge.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I love art but there is a practical side to me and if given such a situation I would likely bring practical books on growing food, providing shelter and sending messages across the globe to those I love and for help.
