Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Michele Bardsley, I’ve written more than 40 novels in multiple genres. I also write sinister stories under the name Michele Freeman and young adult paranormal name as Michele Vail.
My work has received many honors and accolades, including the Grand Prize in the Writer’s Digest 74th Annual Contest for A Mother Scorned, the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice award for Because Your Vampire Said So, and the Crème de la Crème award from the Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc. for A Demon is a Girl’s Best Friend.
When I’m not writing, I crochet weird stuff, read creepy fiction, watch and listen to true crime shows, and eat dark chocolate. I live in Texas with my awesome husband and our fur babies.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
DIRTY ROTTEN VAMPIRES is a cozy mystery based in my popular Broken Heart paranormal series. The couple from I’M THE VAMPIRE, THAT’S WHY goes on paranormal vacation and end up fangs-deep in a mystery while trapped on massive storm on a private island. It’s like if Agatha Christie wrote about sarcastic vampires.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Charlaine Harris, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Agatha Christie, and so many others. Good writing is always inspiring and I read widely in a variety of genres.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on two projects, STALKER and PRAYERS BEFORE DYING, under my Michele Freeman name.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Connecting with readers is the best way to promote books. 🙂
Do you have any advice for new authors?
You don’t have to follow everyone else’s advice. What works for one author doesn’t necessarily work for another. I spent a lot of time mired in what worked for other writers and felt like I was “doing it wrong.” There is no wrong way.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t fall in love with your words.
What are you reading now?
HIGH LONESOME SOUND by Jaye Wells, WATCHERS by Dean Koontz, and THE INVENTION OF MURDER by Judith Flanders.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m spending a lot of time under my Michele Freeman writer’s hat, exploring true crime, thrillers, and horror.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
MORT by Terry Pratchett, GOOD OMENS by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, KISS AN ANGEL by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and whoever wrote HOW TO ESCAPE WHEN YOU’RE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND.
