Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an author from Queensland, Australia, who writes paranormal and contemporary romance. I currently have twelve full length novels, a novella, and a couple of shorts available in anthologies. I have plenty more in reserve that will be coming out over the next few months/years.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My next release will be Phase (Phoebe Reede: The Untold Story #1) and it’s a next generation book that follows on from another series of mine (Declan Reede: The Untold Story). The inspiration was acwanting to know what happened next for the characters in that series. The Declan Reede series was loosely inspired by the song “The Distance” by Cake and a conversation about whether or not race car drivers were athletes.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nothing overly unusual, but I do rely heavily on music and playlists. I have fairly eclectic tastes when it comes to music and tend to be influenced heavily by my characters’ preferences. For example, one of the characters in the Phoebe Reede series is a country music fan so I found myself listening to more and more country music.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read really widely, in a number of different genres, so I can’t really say there is one particular author who has influenced me or my style. I can say there are authors I greatly admire. Sir Terry Pratchett is definitely one of those.
What are you working on now?
I’m still working on finishing Phoebe’s story. I’m currently working on book four and five at the same time.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve found a combination of a few different sites to be best for widest promotion.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t compare yourself to any other authors. There will be some that write books faster, some that have more success, some who win all the awards, but no one else will be the author you can be. Look for inspiration, because it’s everywhere.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write. Just write. Ask ‘what if’.
What are you reading now?
The Successful Author Mindset by Joanna Penn and I’ve just finished Toward the Sound of Chaos by Carmen Jenner
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a heap of series started and/or being worked on, including a steampunk series and a fantasy/fairy tale saga.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would totally cheat and bring long books I could read over and over, The Lord of the Ring trilogy, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy trilogy told in four parts, and the Complete works of William Shakespeare.
