Interview With Author Michelle Murray
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I've written ten different novels, journals and children's books. I primarily write novels. I'm a combat Veteran of the United States Army. I find absolute joy in the written word, traveling, cooking, SCUBA Diving, animals (including my three cats), and, of course, spending time with my adult son. I also enjoy teaching and helping others reach their fullest potential.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel is called The Burg, which is Book Three of my Stoic Souls series. It is actually inspired by some true events in the State of Oregon…but they have been fictionalized and embellished in the novel. In the book, a combat Veteran must destroy a web of corruption in order to save a kidnapped infant.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don't really have any unusual writing habits, however (don't you love that word?), I do insist on completing a chapter when writing a book before I take a break. If I don't, I may lose my momentum!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
John Grisham and Herman Wouk have most influenced my style of writing.
What are you working on now?
I'm currently working on a novel due out on November 22nd, 2022. It is Book Four of my Stoic Souls series. The series features female protagonists that face and overcome adversity in ways they had no idea they could. Book Four is called Two Junkies and a Demon which takes us to a world where the drug culture of a sprawling desert city intersect with the literal forces of Heaven and Hell for an adventure of a lifetime.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method for promotion of my books has been a combination of cross country in person events and Ingram Spark's ipage.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My biggest advice for new authors is WRITE. Don't get caught up in overthinking anything. Just get the story out of your head and you can always make it pretty later. I also advise new writers to research the business of writing if they plan to make a living of this. Understand how to do the marketing and promotion, or be prepared to hire someone who can.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Commit. If you are a writer, you must give time and energy to the creation and promotion of your stories. Story creation and promotion are full time commitments not part time.
What are you reading now?
I'm reading John Grisham's latest, Sparring Partners.
What’s next for you as a writer?
What's next for me as a writer is finishing my Stoic Souls series and then adapting three of them into screenplays.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If stranded on a desert island, must have books for me would be The Bible, The Desert Survival Skills book by David Alloway, John Grisham's The Judge's List, and a book of blank pages with a pen, in which I could write.
