Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a wife, mom, and soon-to-be grandma! I write mostly Christian fiction, though I have written some non-fiction, short stories, and dabbled in ghost writing. Altogether, I have 40+ books and about 50 short stories.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
All This Love – it’s a Christian romance. Who wouldn’t want to read a romance, right? It was inspired by my desire to see more male characters as strong, wholesome men. I enjoy writing about the struggles men face. Though I’m not a man, I’m married to one (23 years now) and have a 22-year-old son. It’s interesting to me how they approach life’s challenges.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I go on writing binges. When I’m in a writing binge, it’s like when my son plays video games. He hardly stops for anything. When he does stop, he realizes he hasn’t eaten, nor has he gone to use the restroom. It’s kind of fun once you get into something – you really do lose track of time and senses. I like writing like that!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve enjoyed Ray Bradbury’s short stories and the late J. California Cooper’s historical fiction. I read mostly non-fiction, but I do enjoy Tiffany L. Warren and Kim Cash Tate especially.
What are you working on now?
This is going to sound bad, but I’m actually not working on anything at the moment. I THINK my next book will be another book in my bestselling, award-winning Mama B series. This will be book #7. My fans are waiting for this book and I don’t want to disappoint them!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I really like to have a book that’s free going at all times. Now that I have dozens of books on Amazon, I can rotate them into and out of Kindle Select, run sales, and promote on sites like Bookbub.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you want to make a career out of this, you need to keep writing good books. You need inventory!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You talk too much.” This was spoken to me by a former employer, and boy was she ever right! There’s a time and a place for everything. Silence has its place, too.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading “Prophetic Activation” by John Eckhardt.
What’s next for you as a writer?
This upcoming year, I may put out 2-3 books, but my biggest goal is to work the inventory that I already have. I own a website where I’ve listed my short stories (www.WeGottaRead) that needs some TLC, so I’m going to focus on what’s working there and amp it up.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. The Bible (Amplified or The Message Version)
2. Ray Bradbury Short Stories
3. Some kind of devotional
4. An HUGE empty book to journal in
