Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My pen name is derived from the Greek meaning of Monica, which is “Alone”. I began perusing writing as a full time career after several life hiccups, and unfortunate events that left me not only alone, but lonely. The characters I created over time have kept me company, and I feel honored that I now have a platform to share their stories.
I have written five books with about fifteen other works in progress.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Black Panther: A Cougar’s Tale (available soon) is about a college professor who has an affair with one of her students. The story was inspired by the me wanting to put a twist on the classic cougar story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write out of order. I tend to write the ending first, I must know how the story ends before I can get started. Then I write the middle, and the beginning comes last. I have an unhealthy obsession with post-it notes.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love children’s books and horror stories. I would say that Roald Dahl has influenced me the most. He was a master of the double life. His children’s stories are classic but his darker, macabre stories for adults are often overlooked.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a short story series where I have the freedom to write in different genres. Currently, I am working on my first horror story which I hope to have available for Halloween this year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Facebook and Instagram for the most part. Twitter, here and there.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My only piece advice is to keep writing and never stop. Every available moment you have, you should be writing something.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If they make six movies about sharks in a tornado, there’s no such thing as a bad idea.
What are you reading now?
The Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d love to transition into writing screenplays.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A few books from the Wizard of Oz series. Those stories are pure magic.
