Interview With Author Mustakin Hashim
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I currently have one book published, which is part of a five book series. I have written them all, alongside two other standalone novels, so seven books in total. I love writing. I just hope people will be able to read them all one day. On the other hand, I'm a lover of movies. If I'm not reading, I'm watching.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Aura Ignition: Darkness After Dawn is my debut novel. I'm been writing from a young age. This story is an amalgamation of the many bedtime stories I would tell my younger brother. As for what inspired it? I want to help the world. I wish I could just snap my fingers and make everyone's pain go away. The core idea of Aura Ignition came from the idea of wanting to heal people – I let my dreams do the rest of the work. They talk to me.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I rarely write notes. I keep it all in my head. How I am still functioning – I do not know. Before I write the novel, I write a screenplay first.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
JK Rowling and Philip Pullman. At a young age I had trouble reading, but I also yearned to tell stories. Northern Lights was the first book I read that captured my imagination. The Philosopher's Stone made me believe in magic.
What are you working on now?
Short stories mostly. I'm also working on my second Aura Ignition book. I hope it will see the light of day.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social media.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just do it. Keep writing. Keep reading. Absorb knowledge. And hold onto your beliefs.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
This isn't advise. But I was told I would never be successful. So, I want to prove them wrong.
What are you reading now?
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep writing and keep publishing.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmm, definitely a book on survival. I will need to google for some recommendations. I wouldn't last a day.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. The Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling.
