My Canvas Bag by Lucas Kinkaid
Mark’s parents drink too much, and his family often forgets him. He works hard to hide the harsh reality of his home life. Mark keeps a canvas bag hidden close to his home. It contains blankets, a flashlight, cans of food, a transistor radio, things to read, and more. The canvas bag has everything he needs to escape from his family’s dysfunction. It enables him to enjoy the peace and solitude of the woods near his house.
The anger and resentment Mark has about his life increase as he gets older. He makes some bad decisions and gets into trouble. Mark then decides to try and improve. He refuses to give up on himself.
Mark is told by teachers he has a talent for writing. His life is then changed forever.
