Interview With Author Nancy Hawse
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a children’s author focused on emotional wellness, confidence building, and resilience through storytelling. My books support children and families by turning important emotional hardships into warm, engaging stories.
To date, I’ve written several books and a bundle, including: Brave Heart Bundle, Never Truly Alone, and Tima’s Superpowers, along with affirmation based wellness activity books for children.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent release is Brave Heart Bundle, which focuses on building emotional resilience, confidence, and inner strength in children. The inspiration came from observing how often children struggle to express their emotions and how storytelling can give them language, comfort, and tools to navigate those feelings.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write intuitively rather than on a strict schedule. I often start with a feeling instead of a plot and let the story grow from there. I also edit by reading aloud, listening for emotional rhythm as much as grammar. I keep a small note around me to use whenever I get the urge.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m influenced by social workers who focus on emotional development, resilience, and compassion through teaching children coping skills. So, In my turn I write books that help children feel seen and supported.
What are you working on now?
I’m developing several new children’s books and emotional wellness resources focused on resilience, confidence, and emotional growth for young readers and their families.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I primarily promote my books through social media platforms such as Pinterest and X, along with reader engagement and community based sharing. These channels allow me to connect directly with parents, educators, and caregivers while organically introducing my books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is to focus on crafting meaningful stories and building relationships with your audience. Consistency in writing, continuous learning, and understanding your readers’ needs are key.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best professional advice I’ve ever received is: “Consistency beats inspiration.” Waiting for the perfect moment or idea isn’t as effective as showing up regularly and putting in the work.
What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m reading a mix of personal growth titles. I love seeing how other authors explore emotions, courage, and kindness in stories for young readers. It’s inspiring and often sparks ideas for my own writing.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My next steps involve developing new children’s books and wellness resources that promote emotional growth, confidence, and resilience. I also plan to expand outreach and engagement with readers, educators, and caregivers to make my work even more accessible and impactful.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Basically, I’d pick stories that make me laugh, think, and feel brave, because if you’re stranded, you might as well enjoy the company!
