Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a Poet, Writer, and Blogger. I have a B.A in Communications from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I have always loved to write, even in school, I’d rather write an essay for an exam before taking a multiple question test. Written communication has always been my best form of communication. In the last two years I started my Poetry blog, Nichole Nichole deals with Reality to reach more loyal readers. Since writing my blog I have been inspired to write short stories and self-publish a few books. I have written three eBooks and self-published through Amazon thus far, proud of that.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Go-Go Juice. I know it sounds silly but that’s usually what I call my coffee. So, I had thought of writing a story based around coffee. At first, I wanted to write a comedy but then a mystery was better suited for this story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always carry around a small notebook in my purse. If at any moment I feel an idea coming on I pause whatever I’m doing unless it’s driving of course and jot down whatever comes to mind and expand on it later.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
For the fiction writers that inspire me to write – Toni Morrison, Jerome Dickey, Stephen King, Octavia Butler, Alice Walker, and Nikki Giovanni. The non-fiction writers I enjoy reading and get motivated by are Louise Hay, Lisa Nichols, Tony Gaskins, Joel Olsteen, T.D Jakes and James Baldwin.
What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m working on two books which are follow-ups to my first two books, “Oh what a Night” and “Lottery Ball”. From reviews, I received feedback of people wanting more so I’m giving them more to the stories.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method right now when promoting my books is through my social media pages, my blog website, and a simple word of mouth.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Since I’m new myself I would just advise you to keep pushing, if writing is your dream don’t stop!! Also re-read often and edit, edit, edit!!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I heard is a quote from Lisa Nichols that has stuck with me over the years, “You are the designer of your destiny; you are the author of your story.”
What are you reading now?
Currently, I’m reading a few books, “Make it work” by Tony Gaskins, “Genevieve” by Jerome Dickey Dickey and “Everyday Millionaires” by Chris Hogan.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My next goals are to complete my full book of poetry to be published by a publisher, find a literary agent, attend a few writers workshop and continue to work and improve my craft.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d bring one of my childhood favorites, “Where the sidewalk ends” by Shel Silverstein.
Any book of poems written by Mya Angelou. “One Day My Soul Just Opened Up” by Iyanla Vanzant and a classic “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker.
