Interview With Author Nick Haskins
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello, my name is Nick Haskins. I am an indie writer from Toledo, Ohio. I have written five full-length novels: On the Edge of Heat, My Husband’s Wife, Betrayed, She’s Obsessed, and I just released book one of my new family drama series, Dark Waters.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is Dark Waters. In 2021, after the story came to me, I originally wrote Dark Waters as a pilot for a streaming series I was ready to start. When that didn’t happen at the time, I loved the material so much that I decided to use it as my next novel when it was time to release a new book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t really have any unusual writing habits, but I will say I never start a writing session without music. The only time music is not playing is when I’m reading aloud, but if I’m writing or editing, music is always on. (Music is on right now, LOL!)
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Greats like James Patterson, Mary B. Morrison, Eric Jerome Dickey, and Carl Weber have always pushed, inspired, and influenced me.
What are you working on now?
For 2024, I am working on book two of Dark Waters. Also, I just completed a new ten-episode YouTube audio project called Paradise Ocean Hotel, along with the screenplay for my first feature film.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Since I’m not big on social media, what’s worked best for me is doing interviews like this, media tours, book promo sites like CraveBooks, and the giveaways and challenges I host on my website.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up! My writing journey has been dark, lonely, and sometimes very scary, but worth it. I have experienced so much joy through my projects and readership, which keeps me going. So, even when it seems like it won’t, things will turn around for you, but not if you give up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My mother once told me, “You’re a struggling writer now, but you won’t always be. You’re going to make it, so don’t stop.”
What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m reading all things Nick Haskins, LOL! As I mentioned, I’m getting ready for several new projects along with physical distribution for my current novels, so I haven’t had much time to read anything besides my work.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to continue to create in any way that I can. My ultimate goal used to be to make it to film and TV, which still is the pinnacle for me, but I want to do it all. Meaning, not just TV and film, but I want to continue to write books, serialized fiction, mini audio series, and maybe even start a fiction podcast. I want to continue to share my gift with as many people as possible for as long as possible. I just want to write and have my work find a home where it can shine and be successful.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring Something on The Side by Carl Weber, The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah, Don’t Blink by James Patterson, and all my books, haha!
