Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Nicole Townsend, I’m a writer from Jamaica. I discovered my love for writing in high school at the age of 14, my teacher assigned poetry assignments and after writing my first poem I fell in love with the craft of it all. I have written and self-published two book to date and looking forward to working on more.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled Thoughts Of Me: Self-Helping Yourself. It was inspired by personal situations, losses, lessons and gains that I have experienced over time.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes actually, I tend to write on the date of a deadline and those always tend to be my best work.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been inspired by many including Atticus and Maya Angelou but I was influenced at a very young age by a book of poetry by various poets titled “The Journey Begins”.
What are you working on now?
At the moment I am working on a series of Children’s stories as well as some new poetry.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method for me is hashtagging on social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Hashtags are really very important as they allow you to be discovered more widely.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up, I know it’s cliche but it is a fact. The day you give up on writing is the day you allow a door to close that someone is looking for to walk through. Even if it seems hopeless keep writing, keep submitting, I can’t tell you how many times my work has been declined but I still am trying, even today.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t be upset when someone rejects you, nice things get rejected all the time by people who can’t afford them.
What are you reading now?
I am currently re-reading and writing some works of mine actually.
What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next for me as a writer is becoming a household name, getting more books sold and hoping that something I’ve written can help and inspire someone, somewhere.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d have to choose The Journey Begins, any book on greek mythology, The curse of the singles table by Suzanne Schlosberg and Love Her Wild by Atticus.
